Celebrating 55 years, the Venice Biennale is again in full swing, this time with Simryn Gill in the hot seat for Australia. Simryn collects, photographs and draws to create poetic works, often with sculptural elements, that interrogate the passage of time, history, landscape and progress. Her carefully collated installations never cease to amaze, but this year she's taken the roof off, literally! (above) To integrate her work with the great outdoors, part of the Australian Pavilion has been removed which cleverly heightens the overall effect while paving the way for the construction of the new pavilion (below) by Denton Corker Marshall.
