With a suggested auction value in the tens of millions of dollars, it's little wonder that art afficionados are aghast to hear that some paintings by Picasso, Monet, Gauguin and others may have gone up in smoke. In a brazen heist at Rotterdam's Kunshtal in October 2012, thieves made off with several paintings in one the biggest art thefts in years. Sadly, it seems the paintings are lost forever.
