SATE: UNDERGROUND DINNERS

It took no coercing, the promise of inspired regional Japanese cuisine served in a mystery location with unknown guests had us reeled in from the start. Hosted by Anton Verplak of Minus 8, a nine course degustation menu was served in a swish apartment in Alexandria. Mouthwatering morsels followed mouthwatering morsels as the sociable dinner unfolded. The idea behind the underground dinner concept originates in Cuba, in a period where restaurants were banned and the only way people could socialise was to have dinner at the homes of others. One of our highlights was fresh wasabi grated straight from the plant. Arigato!
